The appearance of Office full of Waste results from a multitude of interventions; from modifications to the existing building to additions using reused materials and donor elements. One of the design tools that were applied to create coherence in this mix of materials was a color design by studio Raw Color. The colors have a significant impact with minimal material usage.

Rijkskantoor als toonbeeld voor circulair renoveren
Met voornamelijk gebruikte materialen hebben Popma ter Steege Architecten (PTSA) en Vink Bouw een voormalig defensiegebouw omgevormd tot een hoogwaardig Rijkskantoor. Volgens een systematische werkwijze zijn gebouwonderdelen behouden, elementen hergebruikt of donor materialen toegevoegd. Als referentieproject voor hergebruik in de praktijk van het Rijksvastgoedbedrijf, toont het ‘Kantoor vol Afval’ (KaVA) een kwalitatief alternatief voor de wegwerpcultuur in de bouw. Op 19 juni zal het gebouw feestelijk geopend worden.

WEAVING CARPETS FOR RE-ENTRY
In the renovation project the largest part of the old carpet needed to be replaced. In collaboration with Sparo and designers Studio Simone Post, PTSA came up with a way to give used carped a second life in a qualitative manner. Due to uneven discoloration and variation in wear, reclaimed carpet tiles are often difficult to lay in a continuous carpet. Also there is very little demand for cut tiles, much loss due to locally soiled tiles, and small overstocks are often left over. This design provides a completely new look that gives unity to the old flooring and the building.
